"La Casa de Nuestro Abuelo" became an only house in the 50s when our grandparents inherited it. They restored it completely, making practically a new one in those times' style with its hydraulic tiles forming flowered and garlanded mosaics in kitchens, corridors, hall, dining-room..; the bathroom with its floored shower; two kitchens, one of them with a fireplace; its pictures, the straw loft, the barn, the pantry... and even a stationary clock!
This is the way we remember it as it remained like this until 2008. Our grandfather always lived here, alone for a long time. It was his home, but after his death it remained empty, stuck in time, with all his personal stuff: his trunks, papers, his armchair, plenty of objects and memories we wished to keep, although not always has been possible.
The mosaic placed in the hall was previously the central part in the dining- room; the one in the corridor in the first floor belonged to corridors, hall and entrance; the same way,the piece next to the fireplace was part of the previous kitchen.
The names of the rooms are related to place names in this area, in this village: mountain areas, crop fields (Arbozu, Zabalea, Kanpanoste, Andarreka...); most of them very significant in our family.
We regret not having kept more construction elements as such a house with these characteristics is under a certain regulation and dimensions that didn't match with the original house.
It was January 2018 when the idea of rebuilding the house started to take shape and it was August when we started with the works. We had many doubts and worries but the project is already finished. A dream that we thought impossible finally came true.
Now, the only thing left is for our guests to enjoy your stay and notice the love we have placed in this project.
